My name is Terrell Welch.  I’m married to an avid blogger and I wanted a place of my own to occasionally talk about what an amazing privilege it is to serve God.  I’m the father of three awesome kids and a former youth pastor turned salesman.  My  desire is to live a radical life worthy of the high calling of Christ.  I want to spend my life chasing what matters – Matt. 6:20-22

How did my blog get it’s name:  My favorite sermon illustration of all time is about a man returning home from the 49′ gold rush in California.  Carry his new found wealth in a small sack,  he happens upon a slave auction while at port in the city of New Orleans.

This dirty miner purchases a beautiful slave girl whose price had been driven up by filthy minded men.  He immediately escorts her down the street and uses the rest of his gold to have her formal emancipation papers drawn up at the local attorney’s office.

At first the beautiful slave girl is disgusted at her new owner.  Her demeanor quickly changes when she realizes that this man though dirty on the outside possesses a heart full of genuine, radical love for his fellow human being.

The slave girl realizes what this man has done for her and falls at his feet proclaiming, “You bought me to set me free?  You bought me to set me free!”

Is this not what Jesus has done for each of us.  Manumit simply means emancipated.

In 2005 Jesus Christ set me free from the besetting sin of pornography.  After six months of counseling and walking in freedom, my wife asked me one night if I would sum up in one sentence what the past few months had meant to me.  I simply quoted, “He bought me to set me free.”

Several weeks later Kristen presented me with a ring from James Avery Craftsman that had the words of Song of Solomon inscribed on the outside, “My Beloved is Mine and I am Hers,” in Hebrew.  On the inside of the ring she had these words engraved, “I bought you to set you free.”  This ring is my most prized possession and a constant reminder that I have been emancipated from a life of sin.  I am now a slave to Christ Jesus!!!!

As Paul said in Romans 6:15-18

15What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! 16Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?17But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. 18You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.
